Proportion is a key player in this modern design. Oversized furniture, such as the bulky but balanced office table, are functional and so full of character. This “larger than life” theme also applies in the open dining space, featuring dominating artwork and a 10-person dining set illuminated by a series of cube pendants.

With a sleek, modernistic exterior and a clear view of the iconic Hollywood sign looming over the property, the Nakahouse by XTEN Architecture is so undeniably L.A.

The roomy white interior takes advantage of the ample California sun, using glossy surfaces to throw the rays around the room. Billowing white curtains – almost weightless – soften the aesthetics and provide great contrast to the sharp edges of the contemporary furnishings.

As demonstrated by the hot pink touches in the living room, the dominating white palette is the perfect canvas for a splash of color. We’re getting inspired just thinking about the potential; there is nothing more exciting than open-ended modern design.

Does this sprawling abode look familiar? If you’re a fan of Ashton Kutcher, you just might recognize this as the sprawling L.A. abode featured in the movie “Spread”, and we think this brilliant modern design looks a whole lot better without the set furnishings.

XTEN Architecture originally created Openhouse for fashion designer Randolph Duke, who instantly recognized the value of the city view the moment he stepped foot on the lot. XTEN designed the home with a primary emphasis on parties and photo shoots – in spite of the pristine white interior, natural touches like the stacked-stone fireplace and rough wooden tables still add an element of comfort that anyone can envy.

Glass sliding windows are rarely practical, but this home breaks the mold. The bathroom is a wonderful example – lush xeriscaping adds a layer of privacy to this intimate area, where residents can lounge in the minimalistic tub and soak up the view.

The spectacular Openhouse is more than just a hip retreat in the hills; it is a reminder that dream homes don’t always have beachfront views.

It’s almost too perfect – the Suntro House by Jorge Hernandez de la Garza is a pristine place of relaxation and simplicity. There isn’t much to distract from the minimalist modern design: furnishings are uncomplicated, artwork is subtle, and vivid colors are restricted to thoughtfully placed accents.

We think that concrete floors are one of the most innovative white design solutions – concrete adds contrast, provides an opportunity to enrich the home with texture, and offers a nicely complementary canvas for white furniture. This house definitely takes advantage of these benefits, using the concrete as a way of breaking up the white furniture and matching walls without taking away from the monochromatic theme.

The luxurious Villa O is surely one of the most comfortable ways to enjoy Cap Ferrat – especially if you plan to spend plenty of time lounging at the poolside with an uninterrupted view of the incredible Côte d’Azur.

Each suite is different; the two boldest rooms featuring modern design statement pieces such as the decorative divider walls that function as artful headboards – soft red upholstery in one room, and a menacing Scarface print in the other. A glass-encased elevator will take you to the second floor of the Villa O, although we’d probably take the winding spiral staircase just to get a glimpse at a fabulous mural by the elusive Banksy.

The second floor communal area is decked out in a cool cobalt blue and white interior to echo the seascape seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The indoor dining area is just as beautiful – the view of the hillsides brought to life by a Robert Sonneman-inspired chandelier in a subtle rustic neutral.

Light, breezy, serious, and refined – the S Family House definitely rocks a dignified sense of minimalist modern design without sacrificing an ounce of comfort or character. We love the toned down neutral palette: dusty grey and rich charcoal hues ground the crisp white design theme, softened by textural touches like shag carpet and smooth leather upholstery.

Uncomplicated work surfaces are a tribute to functionality – the office desk and kitchen island are smooth and sleek staples of white design and are most likely a breeze to clean. The dining table lacks ornament, but like the other pieces, speaks volumes through sensible form.

The Grace Santorini Hotel looks like one of those hotels that you never want to leave! A partnership between Divercity Architects and mplusm Architects resulted in this fabulously unique vacation retreat – terraces are carved into the side of a 300-meter-high volcano, providing an extreme cliff-face panoramic view of the expansive sea and islands.

The contextual modern design of the interior compliments the outstanding outside view – living areas are colorful and diverse, featuring furniture and lights by prominent (but not overused) designers like Gervasoni and Brand van Egmond, and more well-known names like Vitra are given plenty of attention as well.

Color, pattern, water, rock, and white design have never worked together so beautifully as they do in the outstanding Grace Santorini Hotel.

Hughes Umbanhowar Architects designed the Jupiter Island Beach House to capture the picturesque oceanscape within a clean, sensible living space – and the result is fantastic!

The strong white design is softened by tones borrowed from the rugged beach and endless sky, using aluminum details to create a sharp contemporary focus. Sandy Eames office chairs are used around the dining table effortlessly coordinated with the sprawling cabinetry of the kitchen. The lounge is wrapped in a spectacular outdoor view, furnished with plush Le Corbusier armchairs and enlivened by a thoughtfully placed surfboard – what a fun touch!

The spacious patio boasts one of the most intriguing features of all – an underwater skylight at the bottom of the pool. This unexpected “window” sends radiant shards of spectral brilliance into the white interior of the kitchen below.

The Jupiter Island Beach House is understated, uncluttered, and undeniably inviting.

This Modern Residence by Bower Architecture was the perfect replacement for the dark, gloomy home that previously stood on the property.

The contrast between the indoors and out may be one of the most exciting features of this interesting white home. The exterior is composed of bold geometric volumes, toned down by the dark and seductive zinc paneling.

We love the dedication to white living displayed by the interior design – natural light floods the simple walls, warmed by the generous use of timber. The rich amber wood grains are what helps to cozy the dropped ceilings above the hallways and is also the same material that makes up many of the smart storage solutions scattered between many of the rooms.

Dark, medium, and light tones of flooring, cabinetry, and decorative elements do not overwhelm the sense of white design, but certainly add quite a bit of interest to this amazingly fresh Modern Residence in Melbourne.

This charming West Village brownstone is fresh and funky, far from ordinary, and truly worth a double-take!

The entire gleaming white interior is illuminated from the inside by a five-story atrium flaunting a contemporary purple-clad staircase, which casts sculptural shadows throughout the home in the evening. Billinkoff Architecture worked extensively with the owners to ensure the white design of this modern interior retains the character of a living, breathing family space with the integration of bold classic furniture. Playful prints on the sofas and rugs bring out the warmth of the dark wenge floors. Colorful, textural art and sculpture can be found around every corner, including pieces by Bettina Werner and Candida Hoffer.
