The stark contrast of black and white really works in this modern interior by Suzanna Vento. She’s chosen each piece of furniture and accessory carefully, with an eye toward harmony and minimal design. A bold, vaguely botanical graphic in the dining room is repeated in the kitchen backsplash, tying the rooms together without being too obvious.

The predominantly white interior looks spacious with just the right amount of black for depth and interest in this modern house. The flat black wall is an unexpected and dynamic accent. We notice that the black stops a few feet below the ceiling, keeping the dark shade from overwhelming the room.

Small doses of grey and green add punch and keep the rooms of this white house from being too sterile.

Romolo Stanco’s Hi Fi Modern House is small in size but is an incredible example of the power of a white interior in home design. The second floor bedroom is a box suspended over the larger main floor and reachable only by a set of stairs that seem to hover along the wall like a child’s zig-zag drawing. The white walls, ceiling and floors give you the sensation of relaxing in a wash of light.

Each piece of furniture in this modern house becomes a crucial design element in the cocoon of white. The bold red sofa, pink retro refrigerator and other pieces are like bold splashes of pure pigment on a white canvas. We love the slender, leggy, chocolate brown bathroom sink. The Verner Panton dining room chairs are strong enough to hold their own in white because their iconic shape is such a powerful statement they don’t need any color.

Each room in this minimalist’s dream has a punch of color that highlights the beauty of white without overpowering it.

Occasionally you walk through a standard door and enter a surprising design treasure. You’ll have this experience when you enter to Zenden White Hotel in the Netherlands. Recently renovated, the Zenden uses white spaces throughout the common areas, the pool, and in the new guest rooms. Walls were removed, ceilings raised, and the entire interior restructured to improve the flow from one area to the other while maximize the use of light and shadow. You’ll find unexpected views and soaring expanses of white in every room.

The white walls and vaulted ceiling deepen the brilliant blue of the swimming pool, giving it a timeless feel that submerges you in relaxation. While relaxing in the lobby, you’ll catch a glimpse of a red Japanese maple on the patio, evidence that the designers put as much thought into the landscaping as they did the architecture.

The white rooms are a revelation of good design, with showers, vanities and closet space clustered together in cubes to maximize room size. Floating shelves, television screens hidden behind glass, and wall mounted night stands all keep the room pared down to the essentials. Beds, chairs and ottomans in sober shades of maroon and gray give the white rooms depth and sophistication.

Turning a 1924 Victorian box home into a free flowing family space while still maintaining privacy for specific rooms was a challenge that Kariouk Associates triumphed over when designing the Echo House. A fabulous white interior space that respects the bones of the original house without sacrificing the owner’s need for more usable space.

They took down walls, opened up the ceiling, and created on open floor plan on the main floor with windows that open to the front and back for clear views and the visual illusion of more space. They constructed an office space and a den on the second level by creating a “vertical loft,” with each of the rooms appearing to float freely above the ground floor. Each room is an independent unit, but partial walls allow you to see to the floor below and give clear access to large windows, flooding each area with natural light. The master bedroom is a distinct cube cantilevered out over the entryway and surrounded by walls of windows.

We love the way the den, office and library spaces resemble building blocks hovering within the framework of the house. The white cubes and walls ensure a light, expansive feel in this deceptively small home.

Predock Frane Architects created the impressive Habitat 15 project which is a four story, 15-unit infill housing project at the foot of the Hollywood Hills.

Each white apartment offers a different design with many light sources. What’s interesting about this project is that the building is split in two separate buildings – West and East, with a central courtyard acting as both a buffer and connection between them.

The white interior plays off the building white architecture magically. My favorite part of the building is the façade, it has a gorgeous original play of windows – scattered mosaic – Very Unique!

The location and design of this Beach House is Breathtaking! This stunning white house boasts the Pacific Ocean to the south, a gorgeous courtyard to the west, and the Pacific Coast Highway to the north.

There’s a perfect harmony between the straight ‘boxed’ and organic designs of this modern house. The architecture is very interesting and fully loaded with detail. The bright white interior offers a grand space for dining and entertaining, where residents and guests are surrounded by floor to ceiling windows and a collection of rooftop skylights.

I really like how the courtyard provides a visual and spacial link to the entry, the highway and the ocean beyond. Plus the white modern interior complements the house perfectly. What a truly magnificent dream home!

The Southern California White Beach House by Richard Meier & Partners Architects.

One the things I truly enjoy most is getting an intimate peak at the interior design of an architect’s abode – always a treat! This white Apartment in Reykjavik is a great example, it’s designed and inhabited by Gudmundur Jonsson.

The entire space is only 560 sq. ft. but the all white interior design makes the apartment appear so roomy. Great use of lighting and reflective surfaces to open up the spaces. The addition of a very unique and modern Juliette balcony is quite amazing! The small dabs of contrasting color like the kitchen counter and the flooring ground you in an otherwise all white space. For some, this architects house might be a little too white. I think this is a great monochromatic design – plus it’s in Iceland!

Adding a stylish extension to your home can dramatically boost its charm. It doesn’t even have to be a large addition, it just has to complement the existing home. I love the work ODOS architects completed on a refurbishment and home extension in Dalkey, Ireland.

The brilliant extension allows the owners to connect the back of the house to the second level effortlessly. One of the main design features is the various windows carefully placed throughout the extension adding a natural flood of light – giving the interior an almost dreamy affect. The outdoor garden shares the main floor with it’s minimal design. The black Terrazzo floor perfectly grounds the beautiful white interior. Very inspirational work!

The Sotogrande House is most definitely not your typical Spanish home! The architecture and design of this white vacation house truly sets itself apart. White plays the leading role throughout the spectacular interior which elevates each space and offers both play and contemplation. The drops of color here and there add charm and personality to the white interior. Once you get outdoors, the grand white architecture continues as the main attraction, where some greens and blues complement the great abode.

I simply adore the oversized organic mirror displayed in the entrance where the vibrant flowers and orchids add a nice burst of energy. The rooftop takes lounging to a whole other level! The marble stairs are dreamy! There are simply so many magical touches to enjoy throughout. I’m really lovin’ the use of different shapes and lines in both the exterior and interior. Classic design is abundant in the furniture choices. Going white leather on apair of iconic Eames chairs is not only bold but a clear indication that there’s a profound love for white governing this home.

I wish there were more images to enjoy so I could explore every hidden corner! Sotogrande is designed by A-cero Architectural Studio as a two floor single family vacation getaway. This is definitely one of our favorite LWW featured homes EVER!

This apartment was originally built in the late 1800s and much of its original character still shines along the modern upgrades and touches.

The windows are large and the ceilings very high – almost 11ft to be exact! The original crown molding is very impressive and quite magical.

White is definitely in effect, giving the interior of this apartment a clean and fresh feel. There’s plenty of beautiful color everywhere you turn. Going dark with the kitchen is a great way to make it stand out.

Aside from the obvious white and little white touches – the white guitar in the bedroom and white picture frames bring the celebrated images to life. The use of wallpaper also adds character in all the right places. Very fun and cozy space!
